My St. Patrick’s Day Herbal Rainbow Garden: For Aspiring Herbalist Mothers

Red

Hibiscus

Among Hibiscus’ many health benefits, it’s uses in skincare are at the top of my list! Hibiscus has antioxidants, including anthocyanins and vitamin C. This helps combat wrinkles, fine lines, and uneven skin tone!

Struggling with breakouts? Hibiscus can help! Its gentle exfoliating action clears clogged pores, while its antibacterial properties fight acne-causing bacteria. This double whammy approach paves the way for a clearer, blemish-free complexion.

Hibiscus also naturally helps to keep your skin moisturized and radiant! Check out some of my favorite hibiscus skincare products below:

Orange

Turmeric

Not only a vibrant spice used in many tasty dishes (curry is one of my favorites! Yummy!).

Turmeric also boasts anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe occasional aches and pains.

Yellow

Arnica

This beautiful herb is well-known for it’s topical application to promote healing of minor scrapes and bruises – As well as it’s uses for pain management. This herb is absolutely a go-to in my home!

Green

Lemon Balm

This beautifully aromatic herb can be used to scent household cleaners and more! While its citrus scent is absolutely refreshing, its medicinal benefits are even more impressive!

– Relieves stress and anxiety. Many people experience a very calming effect when using this herb. During one of the most stressful times of my life, I would carry a lemon balm tincture wherever I went and would use it at the slightest hint of an anxiety stomach ache.

– Improved sleep. I found myself unable to sleep through the night for months on end. I began using this herb daily, and that became a problem of the past!

– Digestive issues. Have extra gas from those beans last night? Give lemon balm a try!

This is an herb I simply refuse to live without! All of my close friends and family have heard me say, “Try lemon balm!” At least one time.

Blue

Butterfly Pea Flowers

This beautiful flower is one of the few instances that we see a true blue color in nature.

This wonder of nature has been shown to provide SO MANY health benefits! One of those being possible mood enhancing benefits. This herb has been shown to aid in anxiety, depression, and more!

When you steep these petals in water, it will create an impressive blue hued tea, that will change to a brilliant purple when you add lemon!

Lavender

Lavender is a wonderful, gentle herb found in many homes for a good reason! It can aid in relaxation and sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, alleviate pain, and improve skin health.

Many birth educators recommend the use of lavender essential oils during labor and birth to help the mother feel more comfortable.

Another one of my favorite uses of lavender is the natural antihistamine effects it has. I have extremely sensitive skin and have many minor allergic reactions. Lavender has become my go to at the slightest itch or discomfort of any type of allergic reaction. I’ve even made it into a tea to drink one time after eating something I was allergic to.
